Perfect for calibrating to the test format and the pace they expect at each level. The limitation is that it's a very controlled, clean audio environment, so it won't prepare you for real native-speed conversation on its own. I used it alongside other listening sources rather than as the main thing.
I used the workbook audio to calibrate my pacing expectations before each exam — the speaking rate and turn-taking style in these recordings match the real test closely enough that they're worth treating as full simulations. The limitation I kept running into was that the audio environment is too clean: no background noise, no overlap, nothing like actual spoken Chinese. I made sure to supplement with content where speakers were talking to each other naturally, not reading into a microphone, so the workbook exercises didn't become the ceiling of my listening ability.
